The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records, such as social security number, student number, birth date, and grades. Ensuring this protection means GCC faculty and staff must follow certain policies and practices pertaining to accessing, storing, and sharing this information.
Consider the guidelines and policies from Mr. Terence Reding, Assistant Dean for Records and Advisement as posted on the Help Desk web site. Note his guidance to contact the Records Office if you are unsure or have questions regarding the handling and/or release of students’ personally identifying information.
